Modern Business Interiors (MBI) partnered with Mercy Hospital Fort Smith to support the delivery of a major Emergency Department and ICU expansion—providing furniture procurement, coordination, and installation throughout the project.
Now recognized as the largest Emergency Department in the state of Arkansas, the multi-floor expansion introduced new Emergency and Intensive Care services, along with dedicated spaces for behavioral health and imaging. MBI worked closely with Mercy and the broader project team to furnish clinical, caregiver, and public-facing spaces with solutions designed to support performance, durability, and long-term flexibility in a high-acuity healthcare environment.
MBI’s scope included furniture solutions for patient care areas, staff workspaces, support zones, and public spaces, ensuring consistency, functionality, and ease of maintenance across the expanded footprint. Careful coordination and phased installation supported efficient delivery across the new-construction footprint, aligning furniture installation with project sequencing and readiness milestones.
This expansion enables Mercy Fort Smith to care for approximately 25,000 additional patients each year and supports the addition of nearly 200 new caregivers, strengthening access to emergency and critical care for the Fort Smith community.
The project also included furnishings for a new main hospital entrance, conference center, and gift shop, enhancing the overall patient and visitor experience. The new main entrance opened in 2025, completing a significant investment in regional healthcare infrastructure.
